Noisy Nights 2023 – Call for Scores

Are you interested in writing new music? Apply to our Noisy Nights call for scores – everyone is welcome to apply!

The Noisy Nights gig will take place on Tuesday 16th May at the Glad Café in Glasgowdeadline for submissions Friday 21st April, 5pm.

Noisy Nights are informal new music nights that provide an outlet to hear emerging new musical ideas and voices. Three Red Note musicians will perform up to 8 short new 5 minute works selected from the open call (details below).

The concert will be held at the Glad Café in Glasgow, on Tuesday 16th May in the evening, time TBC.   

 

Call for Scores

Are you interested in writing a piece of music 3-5min long for Red Note, Scotland’s contemporary music ensemble? Then this call is for you.

  •      – Maximum length 5 minutes
  •      – Instrumentation is Flute (doubling Alto Flute*), ‘Cello and Percussion (Vibraphone and up to 3 small hand-held percussion**)
  •      – Only new works composed for this call will be accepted
  •      – Deadline Friday 21st April (5pm – UK time)

Please note the scores should not include electronics or any pre-recorded parts, and when writing please consider that these concerts are rehearsed in a short time frame.

Notes:
* Alto Flute is an optional doubling instrument. 

** Please email sarah@rednoteensemble.com before submission to check that any hand-held percussion you are including within your work is available to our percussionist).

Full score and parts in PDF format to be submitted to Flore Ducasse at admin@rednoteensemble.com by 5pm (UK time) on Friday 21st April. Please include full name and contact in your submission email and use the subject “Noisy Nights Glasgow – Application”. Late submissions will not be accepted.

A maximum of 8 pieces will be selected by a panel of musicians and composers from Red Note. Selected composers will be notified on Friday 28th April and the rehearsal and concert will be held on the Tuesday 16th May.

We encourage those local to the area to apply. There are options to apply for a travel bursary if you are selected and based outside of Glasgow and reside within the UK.
