Go Compose! Course for Young Composers

An intensive composition course for young composers aged 12 – 17 who are still at school.

Go Compose!
For young composers and creative musicians aged 12 – 17
What is Go Compose?
Go Compose! is an intensive composition course for young composers aged 12 – 17 who are still at school. It’s a unique opportunity to work with professional composers and musicians to create your own, original piece of music which will be performed in the Red Note Ensemble’s Noisy Night on 26th October as part of the soundfestival. You will also receive a recording of your piece.

Who is it for?
Go Compose! Is for anyone aged 12 – 17 who has tried composing and who would like to learn more. We are looking for people with potential and commitment, who are enthusiastic about creating their own, original music and keen to try out new ideas.

When is it?
Go Compose takes place between 24 and 26 October 2012. It will be a challenge to complete a whole composition in three days, so we expect you to commit to the whole project.

Timetable for the project
Wednesday 24 October, 10am – 5pm
Thursday 25 October, 10am – 5pm
Friday 26 October, 10am – 5pm, plus performance including your piece at 8pm

Where is it?
All workshops and performances take place at Woodend Barn, Burn O’ Bennie, Banchory AB31 5QA.
What does it cost?
Go Compose! costs £45 for the whole course. We will provide drinks in breaks but not lunch. We can waive the fee for anyone for whom this is too expensive – you are welcome to contact us to discuss. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend two performances (one of which will include your piece) free of charge. Anyone coming with you will be asked to pay £5 for their ticket.

Who is leading Go Compose?
The project will be led by composers Kerry Andrew and Gabriel Jackson with soprano Sarah Dacey and professional musicians from the Red Note Ensemble. There will be additional support from students from the University of Aberdeen’s music department.

What happens after I’ve submitted my application?
We will let everyone know if they have been selected to participate by 8 October. You will then be asked to confirm that you still wish to attend and for the fee of £45.
