Ruth Morley nominated for an Ivor Novello Award
Red Note Ensemble is delighted to celebrate flute player and composer Ruth Morley, whose piece Reef has been nominated for an Ivors Composer Award in the Best Small-Scale Composition category.
One of the most celebrated honours in British music, the Ivor Novello Awards recognise outstanding achievement in songwriting and composition. The Best Small-Scale Composition category celebrates works written for solo performers or ensembles of fewer than 13 musicians.
Reef premiered at soundfestival in Aberdeen in 2025, performed as part of the festival’s programme celebrating adventurous contemporary music. The nomination marks a significant moment for Ruth, recognising her work as a composer alongside her playing with Red Note Ensemble.
Ruth joins an impressive shortlist of nominees in the category, alongside Ben Nobuto for Hope Spiral, Sasha Scott for Night Owl, Alex Paxton for Scrunchy Touch Sweetly To Fall (Kite and Finger Run), and Hania Rani for Shining.
At Red Note, we’re passionate about making space for new music and supporting artists to explore, experiment and bring new ideas to life. Ruth’s nomination is a wonderful celebration of that spirit, and we couldn’t be prouder to see her work recognised on this stage.
Congratulations, Ruth!
