Red Note Advanced Academy

Red Note Advanced Academy (RNAA) offers opportunities to postgraduate advanced-standard young musicians on the brink of a playing career, giving them experience of performing alongside the professional musicians of Red Note Ensemble. RNAA draws participants from Europe’s finest conservatoires, including Paris, Oslo, Dublin, Glasgow and Helsinki.

Young players rehearse side by side with Red Note’s musicians in a series of intensive yet supportive sessions, culminating in a professional performance the Lammermuir Festival.

In addition, Red Note extends to these emerging professionals the opportunity to take their music into the heart of the community to engage with new, often underserved audiences. Following a prep/training session and fully supported throughout by the Red Note team, RNAA performers have led sessions with teenage musicians, in primary schools, and with adults with additional support needs.

I found the balance of rehearsal to outreach really interesting. I would have liked to do more with the community work, and it was really valuable to work with professionals on how to bridge ‘contemporary music performer’ with contributing to the wider community.
