SUMMARY:New Music Makers Project\, Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:Red Note composers and players working alongside staff and pupils from Oakwood Primary School\, Barrhead High School\, Woodfarm High School\, Lochend Community High School and other Glasgow secondary schools to explore and create new music in the classroom.  \nTrying to encourage an insecure teen to open up their imagination and let it run wild can be as challenging as trying to herd cats. Not only that but to transform their imagination into a refined\, structured\, musical composition for multiple instruments that satisfies the outcomes and criteria for examination is a task that often fills the poor petrified teen\, and their teacher\, with fear.  \nNew Music Makers is designed to inspire and support composing within schools and demonstrates how a professional ensemble working in partnership with a school can create a genuine\, practical legacy\, enabling the school to take the work forward independently.  \nFor more information on New Music Makers and to watch four films demonstrating the processes behind the project visit New Music Makers

SUMMARY:Freedom o(r) Speech European Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Three European ensembles\, Red Note (Scotland)\, I Solisti del Vento (Belgium) and Song Circus (Norway)\, have joined forces in this co-production which premieres in Aberdeen before touring to Belgium and the Netherlands. SUMMARY:World Premiere of KEIN at 18ème Festival MUSIQUES DEMESUREES
DESCRIPTION:Composer\, writer and visual artist François Sarhan will design and make a set of new\, invented stringed instruments for the performers of Red Note to play on. Integrating recorded texts from historical figures\, this new work explores the relationship between voice and instrument. \nBy reconsidering the string instrument\, Francois will create around eight new musical devices\, keeping only the resonating string in each. Some will be based on traditional string instruments\, adapted with strange bodies and horns\, and some will not be like anything you might come across in a concert hall!  \nThe new instruments will explore the role and attitude of the player\, giving him or her a much riskier\, fragile and touching task as a performer; to consider the notion of performance; what it means\, how to communicate\, express themselves and share the music with an audience. \nFrançois has an utterly unique and distinctive voice and this project promises to be one of the most innovative and exciting works to be created this year. SUMMARY:Ring Time Music and Movement Workshops for Dalcroze UK Centenary
DESCRIPTION:As part of the centenary celebrations for Dalcroze UK\, Sally Beamish has been commissioned to write a 10-minute piece for three instruments (high/medium/low) for plastique animée (PA). PA is a realisation of music in movement\, aiming to make the music visible where dancers are trained to create a counterpoint with any music they may use\, rather than move exactly with it.  \nMusic and movement share many characteristics. This creative workshop gives dancers and musicians the opportunity to work together and learn from one another. All participants should come in clothes they can move in\, and musicians are invited to bring instruments. \nThe workshops will be led by two performers involved in the première of Ring Time\, with Monica Wilkinson\, Dalcroze consultant\, musician and teacher.
