SUMMARY:‘Aeolian’ Development Residency
DESCRIPTION:The work in progress\, Aeolian\, draws its inspiration and working title from the “breath” of the accordion and will use the accordionist as a central musical and air-producing source. \nThe ensemble is connected to the air-stream provided by the accordionist’s «lungs» and other systems. The piece will be set up as an installation of modified\, conventional and invented instruments\, all acoustic\, which will surround the audience. \nThe ensemble will consist of 12 players including various string\, percussion and wind instruments. The performers’ actions will be initiated by the accordionist\, in ways that are identifiable to the audience\, and will resemble the notion of a kinetic sculpture. \nMusic: Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje\nInstallation: Kathy Hinde\nSoloist: Andreas Borregaard\nCellist: Robert Irvine \nThe artists are developing ideas on a Residency at Scottish Sculpture Workshop\, Lumsden from 14th to 28th August\, 2016 \nOnly for information\, not a public event. \nwww.kathyhinde.co.uk \nwww.ratkje.com \nhttp://andreasborregaard.com

SUMMARY:François Sarhan String Quartet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Red Note Ensemble are teaming up with internationally acclaimed composer\, writer and visual artist François Sarhan to make a new work for string quartet with a difference – François will design and make a set of new\, invented instruments for the performers to play on. How the instruments work\, look and sound is entirely up to François; the performers of Red Note will need to learn to master these new instruments as they rehearse the work\, planned for its first performance in Autumn 2016.

SUMMARY:2015 sound Festival: 13 Vices
DESCRIPTION:13 Vices explores the weird\, humorous\, dark and exotic world of contemporary vices – the bad habits\, the guilty pleasures\, beloved deadly sins\, the inane and profound proclivities we all share. Think Pierrot Lunaire meets ape-shit jazz – think re-imagined scenes from your favourite trash TV programme or the gentle hypnotic dialogue of beauty product ads as sung by Edith Piaf – think wild sonic explosions of Ornette Coleman mashed up with the frustrated sentimental lyricism of John McCormick as heard from a dodgy\, stuttering CD player. \nFood is served from 7pm\, followed by the performance. \nPart of Curious – a curated season contemporary music\, dance and physical theatre. Presented In association with Woodend Barn\, NEAT and Buchanan Food \n13 Vices is supported through Beyond Borders from the PRS for Music Foundation\, Creative Scotland\, Arts Council of Ireland\, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Arts Council of Wales. \nFurther information: www.sound-scotland.co.uk
