SUMMARY:Red Note Fridays@3: Eddie McGuire's Euphoria
DESCRIPTION:Join us on our YouTube channel every Friday afternoon at 3PM for a session of new music where we release unseen performances\, delve into our recorded albums and meet the composers.  \nFriday 29th May: We take a closer look at Euphoria\, the second track from Eddie McGuire’s ‘Entangled Fortunes’ (Delphian Records). Eddie McGuire is one of Scotland’s greatest living composers. A renaissance man\, his compositional voice is informed by a broad wealth of cultural experience and by an unlimited melodic creativity. In this intensely beautiful and unpretentious music\, folk-like tunes appear naturally\, taking their place in a world of invention large enough to contain minimalist gestures\, intense romanticism\, meditative silence and sudden drama. (click on this link or on BUY TICKETS and you will redirected to YouTube) \nClick here to read the programme notes.

SUMMARY:Noisy Nights go Digital - Call for Composers
DESCRIPTION:Due to the coronavirus outbreak\, we have had to cancel the next Noisy Night scheduled for the Sunday 3rdMay in Glasgow. While we hope to resume normal activity after the summer and reschedule in September\, we felt we couldn’t go this long without an outlet to hear emerging new musical ideas and voices. \nSo we are glad to announce that Noisy Nights are going digital! We are planning not just one but four nights of brand new music with Red Note musicians that you can enjoy from your own home. \nHow does it work? \nIf you are a composer and interested in writing a 5min long piece for a solo instrument\, submit your name and contact email to admin [at] rednoteensemble.com by Thursday 26 March. \nOn the morning of Friday 27 March\, we will get back in touch to inform you about the instrument you have been assigned to write for from the options below. Please note this will be a random allocation. On that day\, you will also receive the link to a brief instrument demo filmed by each player outlining capabilities\, techniques\, notation\, etc. \n\nRuth Morley – Flute\,\nSasha Savaloni – Classical guitar\,\nTom Hunter – Percussion\,\nJackie Shave – Violin\,\nand Robert Irvine Cello.\n\nThen the challenge is on! You have 1 week to write your piece for that specific instrument. Please submit in pdf format by 5pm on Friday 3rd April to admin [at] rednoteensemble.com. Please note the scores should not include electronics or any pre-recorded parts. \nThe 20 compositions selected by the players will be recorded and shared on our YouTube channel on 4 separate concerts: 10 April\, 17 April\, 24 April and 1 May. \nChallenge accepted? Please help us spread the word by sharing this call with your network. Looking forward to keeping Noisy Nights alive in these times of social distancing\, connecting new music lovers online.

SUMMARY:Leverhulme concert: Eight Songs for a Mad King
DESCRIPTION:Enter the compelling world from which Maxwell-Davies drew his remarkable 8 Songs For A Mad King. \nFounded by King George III in 1817\, the Worshipful Company of Aviarists served to source and look after his tuneful birds and now present this flight of fancy from inside a birdcage of absurdity as the worshipful company create the regal mind of the mad monarch. We’ll sing a song of sixpence with four and twenty blackbirds\, and have a Lark doing it! \nThe score (to a text by Randolph Stow) offers a searing examination of madness\, and this tour de force music theatre piece for male voice and ensemble gives a visceral thrill in performance. \nGeorge\, our mad king\, is suffering from hallucinations and is painfully aware of his failing mental state. During his first episodes of madness\, he is subjected to torture\, starvation\, reproach; he is kept in a stable where he is treated like an animal. \nPerforming alongside Red Note\, in the role of the Mad King\, will be MMus Opera student Oskar McCarthy\, and the piece will be conducted by one of the Leverhulme conducting Fellows. The performance will also feature works by Mark Simpson\, Harrison Birtwistle and two RCS composers\, Sean O’Callaghan and Rylan Gleave. \nMark Simpson Straw Dogs\nHarrison Birtwistle Carmen Arcadiae\nSean O’Callaghan New Work\nRyan Gleave New Work\nInterval \nPeter Maxwell Davies Eight Songs for a Mad King \nRCS Music Lab and Red Note Ensemble \nConductors: Teresa Riveiro Bohm\, Joel Sandelson and Sergej Bolkhovets\nSoloist: Oskar McCarthy \nDirector: Mark Hathaway

SUMMARY:SPIN: Red Note with Artlink
DESCRIPTION:Working to a soundscape specially commissioned for this event\, musicians will move freely throughout the space. Like Cave’s glittering Kinetic Spinner Forest\, sounds will thread\, twine\, phase and shift as Red Note’s musicians spontaneously align and respond to both the art and the audience. Open to all. \nThis event is informed by the interests and insights of individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities who have collaborated with Red Note over a number of years.  \nThe event is part of Altered States and Human Threads\, a season from the inclusive arts organisation Artlink\, devised in response to ‘Until’\, Tramway’s current exhibition by Nick Cave\, and aimed at breaking down barriers of difference through shared experience.  \n\nSuitable for ages 16+\nIf you require additional info on access to this event please contact Artlink directly.
