SUMMARY:Chair Of The Board
DESCRIPTION:Be part of something amazing – Scotland’s new music ensemble is looking for a new Chair of the Board. \nAs one of the UK’s most exciting and innovative makers and commissioners of new music\, the role of trustee means you will become part of a vanguard developing new works for the national and international stage\, supporting and developing young composers and musicians and working closely with communities. \nAlways forward-thinking and dynamic\, the company plays a leadership role nationally and internationally in the development of new music and the engagement of new audiences through its busy\, annual schedule of events. Our current Board members have expertise and experience at a senior level in arts\, marketing\, education\, finance\, and community work. \nCHAIR OF THE BOARD \nFor this role\, we invite interest from suitably experienced individuals at a Chief Executive level and would particularly welcome those with a background in the UK public sector and/or experience of a previous board membership and a genuine interest in music and the arts. The ideal candidate would contribute their knowledge and strong industry contacts and commit to actively support the ensemble by promoting and supporting the organisation externally. \nCandidates should share our values\, have experience in leadership or governance and have time to invest in supporting Red Note’s work and strategy. Previous Chair experience is not required but a plus\, though we do require strong leadership experience in a public sector setting. \nBoard meetings are held quarterly online\, and the Board meet once a year in person in Glasgow or Edinburgh for the annual Board Away Day. \nThe Chair is responsible for ensuring the Board works effectively\, leading the Board team and meetings and overseeing decisions taken. \nIn addition\, the Chair gives informal advice by phone or 1:1 meeting with the executive team as required and line-manages the CEO. \nIf you would like to have an informal discussion with the current Chair of the Board\, Ian Smith\, you can get in touch with him via email at ian65smith@icloud.com or call +353 87 442 2654 \nAlternatively\, please write to us explaining why you are interested in becoming Red Note’s Chair of the Board (no more than an A4 page\, single sided) and attach your CV.\nPlease send this to Red Note’s General Manager\, Flore Ducasse\, on flore@rednoteensemble.com. \nThe deadline to apply is Sunday 4th January 2026.  \nIf you have any questions that aren’t covered here\, if you have technical difficulties or have any access requirements\, we can support you with the application process. Please contact Ian Smith\, Chair of the Board at ian65smith@icloud.com with your question and he will reply to you with the required information.

SUMMARY:Red Note Ensemble and Laura Bowler: Deconstructing Pierrot
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you take a so-called classical masterpiece\, smash it open\, and rebuild it for the world we actually live in? \nLaura Bowler dives head-first into Pierrot Lunaire\, dragging Schoenberg’s iconic outsider into an age of clicks\, feeds\, and digital self-performance. Glitched\, remixed\, questioned and reclaimed\, Deconstructing Pierrot dismantles the myth of the tortured clown and rebuilds it through contemporary sound\, text and image. \nBold\, unsettling and darkly playful\, this visceral music-theatre work speaks directly to a new generation while sharply re-examining a canonical work. \nCome get your expectations\, and your attention span\, rewired. \nDeconstructing Pierrot\nRed Note Ensemble with Laura Bowler (voice)\nJoan Knight Studio\, Perth Theatre\nSaturday 7 February 2026\, 7:30pm\nUnder 18s go free \n  \nRed Note Ensemble\nRuth Morley\, Flute\nTim Lines\, Clarinet\nTom Hunter\, Percussion\nSiwan Rhys\, Piano\nJackie Shave\, Violin\nNaomi Pavri\, Cello \nLaura Bowler\, Voice \nMatthew Swan\, Electronics \n  \nCo-commissioned by Red Note Ensemble\, Music on Main\, and Ensemble Offspring\nImage: © Robin Clewley

SUMMARY:The Big Give Match Funding
DESCRIPTION:We believe that new music belongs to everyone. \nAs dementia-informed practice grows\, many performances adapt existing work through training\, environmental adjustments and familiar repertoire. These approaches matter. But they often assume that people living with dementia can only connect with what they already know. We believe creating new work shaped by their own creativity can be just as powerful\, if not more so. \nFLOW asks a different question: what if new music belongs here too? \nOver the course of a year\, we will work with residents in Methil\, Fife and their carers to develop a new\, classical-style performance shaped by their ideas\, memories\, rhythms and responses. Workshops will test and evolve material\, allowing participants to influence the structure\, pacing and atmosphere of the piece. \nFor one week only\, every donation made through the Big Give campaign will be matched pound for pound. \nThat means your support will go twice as far in helping us deliver creative workshops\, artist development time and the creation of this new work. \nDONATE HERE\nInvest in new music that includes everyone.
