SUMMARY:New Digital Noisy Nights - Call for Young Composers
DESCRIPTION:Digital Noisy Nights provide an outlet to hear emerging new musical ideas and voices in our new social distanced reality. Every Friday at 3PM for the month of June\, these five outstanding Red Note musicians will bring you the best examples of brand new music played from scratch from their homes to yours: \n\nRuth Morley – Flute\,\nJo Nicholson – Bass Clarinet\,\nTom Hunter – Percussion\,\nJackie Shave – Violin\,\nand Duncan Strachan – Cello.\n\nCall for Young Composers \nIf you are a young composer\, still at high school full time and interested in writing a 2 – 5min long piece for a solo instrument\, send your name\, high school and contact email to admin [at] rednoteensemble.com by Wednesday 27th May (12:00PM). \nThat same day we will get back in touch to inform you about the instrument you have been assigned to write for (no choice – that’s part of the challenge!). You will also receive the link to a brief instrument demo filmed by each player outlining capabilities\, techniques\, notation\, etc. \nThen the challenge is on! You have 3 weeks to write your piece for that specific instrument (if you’re in touch with your school music teacher online\, you can ask them for advice and help).  Please submit in pdf format by 5pm on Wednesday 17th June to admin [at] rednoteensemble.com. Please note the scores should not include electronics or any pre-recorded parts\, and consider that concerts are rehearsed and performed in a short timeframe. \nOur players will then select 5 compositions from those submitted\, to be performed on our YouTube channel on our final Digital Noisy Nights concert\, 26th June. \nChallenge accepted? \nPlease help us spread the word by sharing this call with your friends and contacts. \nWe are looking forward to keeping music alive and new music lovers connected online.

SUMMARY:Noisy Nights in 4/4
DESCRIPTION:Red Note’s celebration of contemporary composition. Listen to some cutting-edge new music in the relaxed atmosphere of the Traverse Theatre bar\, and take part (if you dare) in the 10-Minute Composing Challenge: write a piece down on the free music paper provided and the best audience composition will be performed at the end of the night. The stipulations for commissions this time round are that the music has to be in 4/4\, should ideally be played to a backing track\, and has to be for violin\, cello and accordion. (The challenge\, then\, is to stop it from sounding like Serbian turbo-folk…)

The composers will create chamber works written specifically for their chosen instrument\, to be performed by Red Note at a special edition of Noisy Nights at The Jam House\, 5 Queen Street\, Edinburgh at 8pm on Wednesday 9 May. \nFor more information\, and to watch and listen to examples of the instruments\, please visit: \nwww.inventorcomposer.net
