SUMMARY:Red Note & Rogalski - Adams\, Barber\, Bingham & Vaughan Williams
DESCRIPTION:Barber’s Adagio is regularly voted one of the most popular pieces of music ever written. Away from the concert platform\, it has featured in many films including The Elephant Man (David Lynch) and Platoon (Oliver Stone). \nJohn Adams’ shimmering\, minimalist masterpiece\, Shaker Loops\, is a mainstay of Red Note\, Scotland’s finest contemporary music ensemble. It mesmorises\, even hypnotises its audience! \nTwo JAM commissions by Judith Bingham are included. The Hythe was premiered in 2012 by Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment\, live on Radio 3. They performed it in London and Hythe\, before Red Note took it to Edinburgh\, Glasgow and St Andrews last year. Her Oboe Concerto is written for the brilliant Polish oboist\, Michal Rogalski. SUMMARY:The Intoxicating Rose Garden
DESCRIPTION:Music: Sally Beamish and Anoosh Jahanshahi\nText: Divan e Hafez trans. Jila Peacock \nChoreographer\, dancer\, singer: Michael Popper \nArtwork: Jila Peacock \nVideo: Laurie Irvine \nThe Intoxicating Rose Garden is a new hybrid work which takes Sally Beamish’s settings of poems by Hafez\, the 14th century Persian mystic\, as its starting-point. Combining music\, song\, dance and animated image\, it explores the longing and separation\, as well as the sense of belonging and completeness that are so present in Hafez’s poems: elements that somehow conflict with and complement one another in the same moment. The animated images are based on Jila Peacock’s renderings of Hafez poetry in figural calligraphy. \nRed Note will be joined by the multi-faceted singer and dancer/choreographer\, Michael Popper\, and the outstanding young Iranian setar player Anoosh Jahanshahi\, who will perform his own Songs from Hafez in traditional Persian classical style. \n\n>> SPECIAL FAMILY CONCERT AND WORKSHOP Woodend Barn 10:30am 17 November: Red Note and Michael Popper will introduce and perform parts of The Intoxicating Rose Garden for younger audiences. Expect animals\, fish and birds\, playing\, singing and dancing! \n\n>> The Tolbooth Stirling 8pm 15 November \nINFORMATION AND BOOKING \n>> Woodend Barn Banchory 8pm 17 November \n(with special Family Concert at10:30am) \nINFORMATION AND BOOKING \n>> Traverse Theatre\, Edinburgh 7:30pm 22 November \nINFORMATION AND BOOKING

SUMMARY:Brian Eno: MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS LIVE
DESCRIPTION:Red Note with the Bang on a Can All-Stars \nBang on a Can is a major force in the presentation of new concert music\, and has presented hundreds of musical events worldwide. It is best known for its marathon music events during which an eclectic mix of pieces are performed in succession over the course of many hours while audience members\, who are encouraged to maintain a “jeans-and-t-shirt informality\,” are welcome to come and go as they please. For the twentieth anniversary of their Marathon Concerts\, Bang on a Can presented twenty- six hours of uninterrupted music at the World Financial Center Winter Garden Atrium in New York City. \nMusic for Airports was designed to be continuously looped as a sound installation\, with the intent to defuse the tense\, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal and has enchanted audiences and musicians since its release in 1978. Eno conceived this idea while being stuck at Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany in the mid 70s when he had to spend several hours there and was extremely annoyed by the uninspired sound atmosphere. The Bang on a Can composers made their own arrangement of it for live performance – come chill out in style. \n  \nwww.glasgowconcerthalls.com \n

DESCRIPTION:“The Spirit was transforming into blood\, understanding nothing but blood\, seeing nothing but blood\, tasting nothing but blood\, feeling nothing but blood\, thinking nothing but blood\, unable to think anything but blood. And everything it did\, submerged and sunk it into that very blood …” \n  \nRed Note continues on its bold path presenting rarely-heard classics of international new music alongside new work by UK composers on its regular Scottish tours. Here\, Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino’s extraordinary and disturbing Infinito Nero\, an “ecstasy in one act” based on the evocative visions of the early seventeenth-century mystic St Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi\, rides alongside a new Red Note commission by Scottish composer and viola player Carolyn Sparey\, in concert with other classic works by Sciarrino and fellow Italian Luciano Berio. \n  \nThe players of the Red Note Ensemble will be directed on this tour by international Scottish conducting star Garry Walker\, and joined by mezzo-soprano Angela Tunstall\, world-class contemporary performer and long-time artistic collaborator of Karlheinz Stockhausen. \n  \n“What a night *****” (The Herald\, Plug 2010) \n“Compulsive entertainment *****” (The Scotsman\, Drunk Man Tour 2010) \n  \nWednesday 11th May 2011 WOODEND BARN\, Banchory 7:30pm \nBurn o’ Bennie\, Banchory AB31 5QA \nBooking: Tel 01330 825431 / www.woodendbarn.co.uk \n  \nThursday 12th May 2011 Greyfriars Kirk\, Edinburgh 7:30pm \nGreyfriars Place\, Edinburgh EH1 2QQ. \nBooking: via the Queen’s Hall\, Edinburgh (from 1st March) \nTel: 0131 668 2019 / www.thequeenshall.net \n  \nFriday 13th May 2011 RSAMD\, Glasgow 7:30pm \n100 Renfrew St\, Glasgow EH2 3DB \nBooking: 0141 332 5057 / www.rsamd.ac.uk \n  \nSaturday 14th May 2011 Tolbooth\, Stirling 7:30pm \nJail Wynd\, Stirling\, FK8 1DE \nBooking: 01786 274000 www.stirling.gov.uk/tolbooth \n  \nSalvatore Sciarrino: Le Voci Sottovetro \nLuciano Berio: Différences \nCarolyn Sparey: new work \nSalvatore Sciarrino: Infinito Nero \n  \n
