Ring Time at Drygate Brewery, Glasgow

Red Note and Sally Beamish celebrate the centenary celebrations for Dalcroze UK.

As part of the centenary celebrations for Dalcroze UK, Sally Beamish has been commissioned to write a 10-minute piece for three instruments (high/medium/low) for performance and workshop using the plastique animée (PA) technique, pioneered by the Dalcroze school.

PA is a realisation of music in movement, aiming to make the music visible and enabling viewers and participants to hear and understand the music more clearly. Generally speaking, contemporary dance training encourages dancers to create a counterpoint with any music rather than to express the same thing. Music and movement share three key elements: time, space and energy. “Ring Time” has been designed to highlight this and to raise the profile of Dalcroze in the UK and beyond.
