Noisy Nights – Course for Composers

The next Noisy Nights Course and Performance will take place in Edinburgh, commencing on the evening of 14th November and culminating in a performance at 7:30 on the 16th November.

5 selected participants will be required to bring to the course a new work (8 – 10 minutes in duration) for string quartet (2Vn, Va, Vc) which will be workshopped, rehearsed and revised with the players over the period 14th – 16th November.

Participants will be selected from an open call. Please apply by email to john (at) rednoteensemble.com with:

* 2 examples of recent work (pdf only, no sound files)
* a short (1/2 page) biography
* a short (100 word) statement explaining why you want to write a new 10 minute work for string quartet

by 5pm on 6th October at the latest. Participants will be notified by 15th October and will then be expected to write the first draft of the new work over the following month.

This opportunity is particularly offered to participants who wish to develop their practice as composers, and priority will be given to those applicants who demonstrate that they will make use of the course in this way. We expect the work to be written to be a new one, not a re-presentation of a previous piece.

Please note that, whilst the course is free to participants, Red Note cannot offer financial assistance with travel, accommodation or other attendance costs, and participants must be available for the whole time of the course. Participants will also be expected to revise their works during the course as necessary; office facilities on-site including a printer will be provided for this.
