The Current Noisy Night Calls for Scores are as follows (please read the Conditions included below before submitting):
1)For the Noisy Night on Monday 15th April 2013 in the bar of City Halls, Glasgow:
An ensemble of viola, alto flute and double bass (or any combination of these). The deadline for submissions is slightly extended because we know we've been slow getting the call out (again ...!), so please can all scores and parts be with us by 5pm on Monday 8th April, emailed to john@rednoteensemble.com.
2)For the Noisy Night on Monday 29th April 2013 in the bar of The Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh:
An ensemble of Bass Trombone, Electric Guitar and Drumkit (or any combination of these). The deadline for submissions is 5pm Monday 15th April 2013, emailed to john@rednoteensemble.com.
If you’ve not written for drumkit before, Audio Graffiti’s very good straightforward guide to drumkit notation is available to download here: http://web.mit.edu/merolish/Public/drums.pdf.
If you’ve not written for guitar before, then this is a good quick ‘n’ dirty guide to at least writing something playable is: http://www.musicianwages.com/music-notation-for-guitar/
(one other tiny but incredibly time-saving of advice for those writing for electric guitar: it’s a really good idea to write simple stylistic pointers in if you want certain effects, rather than trying to figure out exactly what those effects are. For instance, “use an effect like the opening to Take No Prisoners by Megadeth” will more quickly get you something along those lines than any amount of precise effect specification)
CONDITIONS FOR ALL NOISY NIGHTS SUBMISSIONS: no work is to be longer than 5 minutes. All scores and parts (in pdf format) to be sent with the submission. Tape parts (in mp3 format) will be accepted in addition to instrumental parts.
All submissions must be sent to john@rednoteensemble.com. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
